Am 17.02.2016 wurde die Version 2.38.0 released:

Small correction here: surface=* was not previously rendered for beaches
at all, it is now for surface=sand (fine pattern) and surface=gravel|
fine_gravel|pebbles|pebblestone|shingle|stones|shells (coarse pattern).
